Class 3 Classroom

Welcome to Year Three

Year 3 is a very exciting first step into life in KS2. Mrs Heasman teaches the Year Three class. Mrs Heasman used to be a journalist before becoming a teacher and enjoys linking media and drama to core curriculum teaching. Mrs Heasman also enjoys running the school newspaper with a group of pupils. Throughout their time in Year Three, the children learn about a variety of topics; further details of topics can be found below.

In Year 3, the children also start their swimming lessons, which consist of blocks of lessons for 2 weeks at a time.  The children learn how to swim and how to keep themselves safe in water. As the children begin to access their KS2 curriculum, they receive weekly French lessons from Mr Tinjod who is a French specialist. During French the children focus on reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.

During Year Three the children become much more independent around the school, for example,  they line up at lunch time when their class is named rather than being brought to the hall by their class teacher. The children also enter and exit school via the KS2 door rather than their classroom door so that they fully experience the shift from KS1 to KS2. This is essential so that by the time the children leave us at the end of KS2, they feel well prepared and confident for secondary school.
