Class 3 Classroom

Year 3 is a very exciting first step into life in KS2. The children get to learn about a variety of topics from the Stone Age to the Romans, to learning all about our 'Extreme Earth', magnets and how we move. A real emphasis on the basics in maths and English helps consolidate learning from KS1 and prepares them for their progression throughout KS2.

In Year 3, the children also start their swimming lessons, which consist of 3 block of lessons for 2 weeks at a time.

Our Year 3 Class is led by Mrs Allen and Mrs Hall. They have both been teachers for many, many years and have recently moved from teaching in Year 6. This has been really helpful in knowing where the children need to be by the time they leave our school. They have worked together for approximately twenty years and have formed an excellent partnership in school. Mrs Hall is currently the maths subject leader while Mrs Allen is in charge of R.E. They have many shared interests such as a love of reading, walking and they even have dog brothers. Having completed the Great North Run last year, they are going to attempt the Edinburgh marathon in May but as part of a relay team. Both have grown up families who attended this school when they were young.

once I get into a book. I also love cooking and particularly enjoy making chocolate puddings and love eating them even more. I love to watch all sport from football to cricket and have an ambition to go to a rugby international. I live on a farm and look forward to lambing season and try to keep the children updated on what is happening. During lockdown we had our very own ‘lambing live’ and the children got to watch a lamb being born. Farm work takes up most of my summer holidays but I do love to travel and hope that one day I get to see the Northern lights. I enjoy teaching all subjects but particularly like when we get into a good story and can use that for some of our English work.

My favourite book as a child was The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and I still love reading today. I have to try and restrict myself to starting a new book only in the holidays as I will stay up very late reading once I get into a book. One of my favourite pastimes is reading and as I am a member of two book clubs, I always have a book on the go. I like being in book clubs because it makes me read books I might not otherwise have chosen. Right now I am trying to develop my sewing skills by taking up patchwork and quilting. I am enjoying it but it is detailed work. I am having to be very patient and remember that it is okay to make mistakes. I do a lot of walking around Durham where I live. At the weekends, I often walk along the Durham riverbank and meet friends for a cake and a chat. I try to stay fit with a bit of running, tennis and Pilates. I enjoy teaching everything, but am particularly enjoying learning more about our Year 3 history topics of the Stone Age and Romans.
