PSHE Subject Overview
We aim to ensure that each individual child is fully prepared for their future lives. Our vision for PSHE in our school is to foster skills, attributes and qualities to ensure our children to become adults who are confident, caring, and self-aware, and can make positive contributions to the world in which we live. Our children will learn about the emotional, social and physical aspects of growing up, relationships and how to live in the wider world. It will equip our children with accurate information, positive values and the skills to enjoy healthy, safe and positive relationships, to celebrate their uniqueness and to take responsibility for their health and wellbeing now and in the future.
We follow the PSHE Association planning which breaks the subject down into three core themes: Health and Wellbeing, Relationships and Living in the Wider World.
Years 1 & 2 follow a programme of study, which is repeated in Years 3 & 4 and then in Years 5 & 6. This ‘spiral curriculum’, ensures that specific learning builds for pupils as they move through the school, gradually expanding and deepening their knowledge, skills, and attributes.
The revised EYFS framework became statutory on 1st September 2021. We use the EYFS framework document and 'Development Matters' to plan and teach our early years curriculum. Our early years team are in the process of writing our new curriculum and updating our subject overviews to reflect these changes.
