Computing

Subject intent:

At William Cassidi School we recognise that technology is everywhere and that it plays an ever increasing part in students’ lives on a day-to-day basis. We want our children to have the opportunity to become creators through having access to and embracing new technologies. We strongly believe in the holistic development of our children and strive to provide a high-quality and diverse computing education. Computing should be inclusive and allow all children to share their learning and creativity in a number of difference ways. We understand the accessibility opportunities different technologies can provide our pupils.  We strive to provide our pupils the opportunity to showcase their creativity and computational thinking.

As a school we appreciate how important it is model and educate our pupils on how to use technology positively, responsibly and safely. We strive to provide a rich curriculum that that encompasses computer science, information technology and digital literacy. We encourage our staff to utilise computing across the whole curriculum to continuously develop their skills and make learning enjoyable, creative and accessible.

At William Cassidi we take E-safety and digital literacy extremely seriously. We understand the immensely positive opportunities different technologies bring to our lives. Computing has an ever increasing impact on our learning and well-being. We model positive use of technology, through ourselves as teachers, but also through our E-safety ambassadors. We believe that having the right balance with to being safe, and happy, online and education is the key to this. As new technologies are created, the importance of E-safety is paramount and we make sure this is a continuous part of our curriculum

By the end of KS2, we want our children to be independent, creative and safe computer scientists. We want them to have the confidence to be able to choose the best tool to fulfill tasks and challenges given.  We endeavor to ensure the Computing experiences and abilities that the children are equipped with at William Cassidi, are broad, effective and transferable life skills.

Early Years

In Nursery and Reception, our curriculum is based on the EYFS framework document and 'Development Matters’. It is taught through topics, which are adapted and developed to suit children’s interests. For Nursery children, we have identified key skills in each area for us to focus on, whilst in Reception we have identified skills to teach and develop during each half-term to progress towards meeting the Early Learning Goals.

Computing aligns most closely with the EYFS area of:

Understanding the World
